ABOUT THE PARK
A community park since 1912 Stewart Park was purchased by Dane County in 1935 making it the oldest of the County Parks. Set in a deep valley with beautiful exposed dolomite rock structures combined with a shimmering lake makes for great natural beauty.
The Park contains three well-maintained hiking loops for a combined three miles of trails plus unmaintained trails around the lake.
Bathrooms and water are available at the main parking lot (see park map under “Visit” heading).
There is a wheel chair accessible fishing pier near the damn and adjacent to that is a canoe launch.
A spring-fed tributary of Moen Creek flows into Stewart Lake and offers a challenge for Trout and Bass fishing. Gas motors are not allowed on Stewart Lake (small electric motors permitted).
Motorized vehicles and bicycles not allowed in the park (motorized wheel chairs are the exception).
Recreational facilities include picnic shelters, play equipment, sandy beach and swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking trails, snow shoeing trails, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, geocaching, letter boxing, picture post and more. Bathroom facilities are available at main parking lot, near the shelter and beach.
Wedding and special events at a new shelter are available. The beautiful shelter was built with walnut beams and cedar shakes from the Park. Electric power, lighting, and grills at shelter.
